IDS22 Highlights

It felt so good to be back at a design show IN PERSON after being cooped up for so long with this pandemic! Although a fraction of the size of previous years, there was a lot to see and feel at this year’s Interior Design Show. I even participated in some seminars that got my gears turning!

I figured I would share a few trends and suppliers that particularly got me excited…

Bold, Organic Forms

A major design trend that was evident throughout the show was the use of bold and organic forms, speaking to the new age Post Modern design movement. Designers and suppliers are embracing bold shapes and having fun with playful and artsy designs, while keeping the overall aesthetic comfortable and inviting. I am 100% on board with this trend and I hope it’s here to stay!

Colour

There was certainly a lot of natural and neutral colour palettes used throughout the show (creamy whites, beiges, light greys). When pops of colour were introduced, these were generally muted and desaturated; such as navy blues, greens, terra cottas and tans (a colour palette I can get on board with!). White seems to be the ‘IT’ colour right now, acting as a grounding or field colour, and there was just a splash of Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year ‘October Mist CC-550’. I was happy to see a mixture of various wood species present, most with a beautiful natural matte finish that was oh so soft to the touch :)

Local Discoveries

I made a local discovery of a company called Metal Wood Studio. They specialize in live edge and custom furniture and had some show stopping pieces on display. I spoke with a gentleman who works in the manufacturing shop and I was instantly SOLD with the amount of passion they put forth into each custom piece. Worth every penny $$!

I came across another local bespoke custom furniture supplier called Cabinet. Stunning pieces full of those bold forms I mentioned earlier, I couldn’t get enough of this booth! Check them out on Instagram @cabinetrjb!

Arches

The arches trend is still going strong! Thinking of adding some arches in your home? You seem to be safe in keeping with the current design trends for a little while longer.

Lighting

There were only a few major lighting statement pieces throughout the show, one being this beautiful organic lighting display from @hollisandmorris! There was more emphasis on subtle back lighting or strip lighting to highlight architectural features - I mean, who wouldn’t want to highlight those gorgeous curves!

The Experiential Booth

Caesarstone put on a great show with their Experiential Booth, full of organic forms and lots of movement! Check out their instagram @caesarstoneca for an in depth overview of this phenomenal installation.

Overall it was a great show and left me with a spring in my step!
