IDS23 Highlights

Looking to see what kind of design trends 2023 has to offer?? The Interior Design Show this year has promise of bringing back colour! See below for some of my favourite finds…

Goodbye white, hello COLOUR!

Bold colour is BACK in a new and refined way. Benjamin Moore’s colour of the year ‘Raspberry Blush’ evokes the essence of what type of colour we can expect to see in 2023. We’re talking bold, yet muted colour that works in every application, whether it’s furniture, paint, accessories or fashion. Colour is finding it’s way back into our lives in new and innovative ways, such as these playful faucets and controls from the new Mond collection by Vogt. I can’t wait to see where colour takes us this year!

Innovative Acoustics

Detailed linework and organic forms were evident in this year’s acoustic offerings. I especially loved the marriage between art and acoustics through the textile wall art collection by Marie Dooly Maison.

Biophilic Elements

The design community is starting to understand the importance of integrating the natural world with the built environment. I am hopeful that this new trend is here to stay and brings us into a more sustainable future!

Biophilia is defined as:

The practice of incorporating nature and natural elements into the built environment.

Biophilia is often attributed with our direct experience with nature, such as our visual connection, daylighting and sensory stimuli (refer to the first 2 images below). Additionally, biophilia is present through indirect experiences such as simulating natural materials and colours, for example the botanical wall graphic shown below!

Unique Finds

Roc-Base is a Canadian company that specializes in shower pans. They have perfected the shower base in my opinion and have created an elegant and functional design aesthetic with stunning edge detailing. I can’t get enough of the leathered stone in the image on the left!

Organic Forms + Materials

Organic elements have been carried through from last year and remain a key design trend in 2023. Sharp vs. curved forms mimic nature through archways and canopies, and innovative materials form unique installations, such as the paper bag wall as part of the Montauk booth!

I can’t wait to see where colour and form take design this year!
